This eight-member company is a phenomenon. The group, founded in Friesland, has already played at festivals like North Sea Jazz, Into The Great White Open, Paaspop, and Oerol. But actually, you might have spotted Broken Brass Ensemble at any location. The music they have been playing since 2012 is so funky and sweaty, the link to New Orleans is almost self-explanatory. Their mix of hip hop, New Orleans brass, funk and Balkan works like a charm on audiences everywhere. Their breakthrough came in 2013 with a catchy reworking of the super hit Thrift Shop, by American duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. At the beginning of this year their latest album Broken Brass was released, an innovating piece of work in which the formation is able to further deepen their sound. But don’t be mistaken, as a party band Broken Brass Ensemble has not yet seen its equal.
