Boogieball: the festival afterparty

For the 16th time, Boogieball is the nightly closing event of NN North Sea Jazz. On Friday 11 and Saturday 12 July, BIRD opens its doors for what is always a surprise: festival artists can just walk in to give a jam session or get behind the turntables.

Where the festival ends, Boogieball begins: the afterparty where visitors can come face to face with the best soul and jazz artists for two musical nights. In the past, Usher, Macy Gray, Mos Def, Anderson.Paak, Bootsy Collins, Roy Hargrove, Janelle Monaé and Questlove, among others, have appeared there after their performance in Ahoy. They came to participate in jam sessions and/or took charge of the turntables. Either way, it was a party!

This year, on Friday night July 11th, Joe Armon-Jones will appear: the London keyboardist and producer who combines his unique sound with deep jazz and soul influences. He will lead the iconic jam session at BIRD together with local hosts Bnnyhunna, Deborah Slijkhuis, Peter Somuah and JUNYA. Roll the Dice will take over the turntables with a lineup that will make the dance floor shake: JEWEL, BKK, Phillintheblanks and Lashanti will bring everything from soulful house to broken beats and from bass-heavy club vibes to eclectic heaters.

On Saturday July 12th, Ghost-Note, the project of Grammy-winning duo Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth, will perform, bringing their mix of funk, jazz and soul to Boogieball. In addition, It’s Cookin’ serves up a steaming lineup: DJ Turne, Cutnice, MC JR, Stayfun and Don Dev will provide a mix of hip-hop, soul, funk and much more.

On both days, the afterparty starts around 23:00. Both Passé-Partout and single-day tickets are available via Bird Rotterdam.
