He is referred to as one of the best kept secrets in the jazz world. This is probably because he shares his name with a legendary bassist. But those in the know regard Avishai Cohen
as a versatile, extraordinarily gifted, modern master who effortlessly combines soul with flair and subtlety. Cohen grew up in Tel Aviv where he first picked up a trumpet, but he honed his craft at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. Afterwards, the now 35-year-old artist moved to New York where he performed with Chick Corea, Lionel Loueke, Jason Lindner and his own equally talented sister Anat Cohen. Today, the post-bop trumpeter, who makes his debut at the North Sea Jazz Festival this year, has also become a celebrated bandleader and composer. A multicultural jazz musician in the line of Miles Davis with a strikingly lyrical and above all creative style of playing.
