Like no other, pianist-composer Randal Corsen
is able to build a bridge between modern jazz and Caribbean music. Born in Curaçao the great-great-grandson of a famous poet, he has been one of the greatest musical ambassadors for his country in past years. Corsen made his debut in 2004 with his highly original album Evolushon
, which instantly delivered him an Edison Jazz Award. The 41-year-old keyboard player always looks for innovation and has the courage to experiment in a creative way. Five years ago, Corsen decided to pay more attention to his private life and write music for others. But jazz kept calling, and so he made a wonderful comeback with Symbiosis
(2013), perhaps his most prestigious work. A daring and organic mix of melodious Caribbean sounds, layered classical elements, Latin American-oriented polyrhythm and a dash of rock. At North Sea Jazz, Corsen will bring this ambitious project to life on stage.
