Ben van den Dungen
(soprano and tenor saxophone) can be heard on over seventy CDs. These were usually released under the name of Ben van den Dungen/Jarmo Hoogendijk Quintet, but in 2013 there was Van den Dungen’s solo album Ciao City
. Now he has developed a taste for it; in May the saxophonist and his quartet visited Madrid to record their latest album Walking Down Blues Lane
. He graduated from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1988, but had been active on the scene since 1983, with Latin jazz group Nueva Manteca, the Van den Dungen/Jarmo Hoogendijk Quintet, the group Brand New Orleans and since 1996 in the Louis van Dijk Superband. He is also intrigued by the opportunities world music can bring, in a combination with jazz. Since 2002 he has been busy with the group Tango Extremo that combines tango, jazz, classical and Brazilian music.
