Texan Robert Glasper
made his debut in 2004 with the album Mood
. It was a debut with far-reaching consequences. The jazz pianist and producer created the perfect crossover of jazz, gospel, hip hop and R&B. In the following years Glasper kept surprising his audience with striking productions like Canvas
. But the great breakthrough came in 2012 when he released the album Black Radio
. It appeared to be the perfect synthesis of hip hop and jazz, and the album was surprisingly, but completely deservedly, awarded a Grammy in 2013 for Best R&B Album. A new jazz sound was born. Equal success was garnered that year with Black Radio 2.
At the North Sea Jazz Festival, Glasper will perform with the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Vince Mendoza. Besides his own band, Glasper will be accompanied on stage by vocalists Bilal and Lalah Hathaway. A unique and surprising combination and a performance to look forward to with anticipation.
