Although not yet 20, tenor saxophonist Tim Wes was nonetheless named Soul & Jazz Talent of the Year by the Dutch radio station Radio 6. This was due to his album On My Way (2012). He is a resident of the densely-populated Randstad conurbation where he is regarded as a role model for young people: in March this year the mayor of his town presented him with a youth achievement medal. Wes started on the recorder, then switched to clarinet, moved on to soprano saxophone and finally stuck with the tenor sax. His credo is: "When I do something, I want to do it well." There's a lot of buzz about this rising young talent who was introduced to jazz by his parents. Critics now say: "Tim Wes's work is one of the most rhythmic answers to questions about the future of jazz." A documentary was also recently made about this talented resident of the Dutch town of Spijkenisse.
