She has been a musicprofessional for over twenty years in a style that blends classicrock, funk, pop and hip-hop. She has worked together with, amongothers, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Carl Hancock Rux and Amp Fiddler andtoured the world with the Brooklyn Funk Essentials. She has alsoreleased solo albums, the most recent of which is Tell It like ItIs (2008) which shows all her gifts as a songwriter. On the album, she announces to the public what her musical heart yearns for: aglorious, vivacious vibe which she lets float on the musical stylesof her preference. Besides classical soul we also recognize funkrock from the 70s and old-school hip-hop. The song Jackson Avenueis a fine example of Stephanie McKay's recollections of thebeginnings of hip-hop in the Bronx. It is obvious she has found herown voice.
