Pianist Satoh Masahiko is a veteran on the Japanese free-jazz sceneand is recognized as one of the pillars of contemporary Japanesejazz. Right from the release of his first album Palladium in 1969,he has been a celebrated man in his own country. He immediatelyreceived the prestigious Japan Jazz Award for this firstachievement in his musical career. What followed was a dizzyingnumber of projects and collaborations in which he became especiallyfamous for his qualities as a composer and arranger. Masahiko'smusic catalogue is impressive and varied as witnessed by, forexample, Buddhist Music with 1000 Syomyo Voices in which heinterprets the traditional music of Buddhist monks. Hiscollaboration with Saifa dates from 2005 when they released thealbum Live at Moers.
