Ever since the release of her debut album Baduizm, the Americansoul singer Erykah Badu has had the music world in the palm of herhands. Her style, which has often been described as 'neo soul', issometimes eclectic and always politically and socially charged. From a jazz perspective, Badu's voice is reminiscent of BillieHoliday. Badu did not release any new work from 2003 to 2007; shewas suffering from writers' block. But luckily she recovered andcame back strongly in 2008 with the albums New Amerykah Part One(4th World War) and New Amerykah Part Two (Return of Ankh). She iscurrently working on two new projects that should see the light ofday this year. Her philosophical approach and clear opinions, aswell as her feeling for entertainment make her an elusive andunique phenomenon.
