Virtually everyone in the world consciously or unconsciously knowsa song by Burt Bacharach. The now 81-year-old master composer wrotethe majority of his classics with lyricist Hal David. Songs likeWishin' and Hopin', Walk on By, What the World Needs Now Is Loveand I Say A Little Prayer are just a small sample from his enormousrepertoire. In recent years, the Dutch singer Trijntje Oosterhuishas brought renewed attention to Bacharach's songs. She did thiswith two successful albums recorded with the Metropole Orkest. Themaster himself also made a contribution: he plays the piano onseveral tracks.
Bacharach and David composed their first song in 1957. Today, thisdynamic composer remains active, releasing new works and performinglive across the globe. The duet album Painted from Memory that herecorded in 1998 with Elvis Costello, rose high on the charts. Hereleased his most recent album At This Time in 2005 and it includestopical protest songs. Burt Bacharach is arguably the greatestlegend at the North Sea Jazz Festival this year.
