Phantom Orchard is the name of a collaborative project between IkueMori and Zeena Parkins, two heavyweights on the New Yorkavant-garde scene. The result is described as an impressionisticdepiction of an electronic landscape. A linking of ambiences andsounds that together form a monumental sound sculpture. It is nowonder that the two ladies are famed for their quest for theexperimental and have thus become trendsetting pioneers in thefield of instrumental music. Ikue Mori started out as a drummer inthe post-punk age in the No Wave band from New York, DNA, where shequickly discovered the drum computer. Combined with her laptop, shehas now made this into a multi-instrument with which she seems tocreate an endless variety of sounds, from the soft and lyrical tosounds that assault the heavens. At the end of the 80s, ZeenaParkins played an important role in the development of theelectronic harp and she is able to combine acoustic and digitalsounds like no other.
