Matthias Schriefl comes from the Allgäu. In this region of southernGermany you will still find a lot of "Lederhosen" (knee breechesmade of leather) but there is nothing old-fashioned about the musicof this trumpeter. His first album Shreefpunk plus Strings (ActMusic, 2007) was a true creative work. Schriefl plays trumpet and(more often) bugle; he has a rock-solid tone and a great feelingfor flair. He writes all the arrangements himself; they aresometimes sentimental, sometimes experimental and often verysophisticated. Serious passages interspersed with unexpectedoutbursts. Schriefl, now living in Cologne, makes music with a keensense of humor that fearlessly crosses the boundary intomodern-classical music. Moreover, he effortlessly adds a rawmusical edge to romantic passages. Schriefl identifies stronglywith his band Shreefpunk. 'The compositions I write for this bandshould be seen as a personal diary.'
