Saxophonist Paul van Kemenade is known to be one of the most industrious musicians in Tilburg, active in many fields of music. He’s an inspired musician, who works hard to keep his great passion alive: the music. His own quintet, founded in 1982, consists of pianist Jeroen van Vliet, trombonist Louk Boudesteijn, bassist Wiro Mahieu and drummer Pieter Bast. Besides that Van Kemenade plays in many different groups such as the Contraband and the trio with Ineke van Doorn en Marc van Vugt. But he also is involved in various projects for young people, including the Euregio Jeugd Orkest and concerts in schools. Van Kemenade also plays an important role in the willful music festival Stranger Than Para..noia, yearly held between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. In that period jazz venue Paradox celebrates its own party with an ‘original, almost cross-grained program’. Van Kemenade also makes himself heard with his new project Strings Get Wings, acclaimed for its very special line-up. Next to a string quartet with a/o the French virtuoso Pierre Blanchard and Oene van Geel, sax, bass and cajón can be heard. The ensemble plays original compositions, arranged by Nico Langenhuijsen. Both the Paul van Kemenade Quintet and Strings Get Wings will release a new CD.
