Vijay Iyer is one of the representatives of a new generation of jazz cats in New York. He is a pianist with a strong sense of rhythm and a good feeling for balance in his compositions. He is able to go in new directions. He gained experience in the groups of M-Base pioneer Steve Coleman. The adventurously playing alto saxophonist Rudresh Manhanthappa is a permanent member of Iyer’s quartet. The two musicians connect in extraordinary improvisations no one knows the outcome of. It’s new jazz at its best! As can be heard on the CD Reimagining that has just been released, the music subtly shows their mutual Indian roots.
