Groove Troopers, the modern small big band of composer/pianist Martin Fondse, combines the rich sources of traditional big band history with the modern beats and sounds of today. With two drummers, a steaming horn section, contemporary singing and electronics the Troopers shed an entirely own view on contemporary music, which is evidently expressed in the completely self-written repertoire. Soon the original live-lounge-big band will release its first CD: Zoom Zoo. Conductor Martin Fondse has improved himself into one of the composers and arrangers in the contemporary jazz movement most in demand. Last year he got charged with the composition assignment by the North Sea Jazz Festival in co-operation with the Nederlandse Jazzdienst.
