Gino Vannelli?! Many eyebrows will be raised at the mention of this '70s and '80s singing sex symbol's name. Is he still singing? Yes indeed! Trumpet player and A&R record mogul Herb Alpert was probably just as surprised, though for different reasons, in the early 1970s. Vanelli, whose demo had been rejected by a long line of record companies, had basically forced Alpert, in a desperate move, to listen while he gave a live performance of his songs in the record boss' office. Alpert saw something in Vanelli's songs and the rest is history. Since recently, Vanelli is back, with the album Slow Love. With Metropole Orkest, he will be performing a large number of its pieces. A re-acquaintance that might turn out to be one of the festival's highlights.
