New names North Sea Jazz 2018

We are pleased to announce 29 new names for the upcoming edition of the NN North Sea Jazz Festival, including D’Angelo and Emeli Sandé on Friday, Leon Bridges on Saturday, N.E.R.D on Sunday and Artist in Residence Michael League.

Musical jack of all trades Michael League is a welcome guest at the festival. The American Grammy Award-winning bassist, guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, label owner, and bandleader will perform with three completely different combinations. On Friday he performs with his band Snarky Puppy and the Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, with whom he won a Grammy Award for 'Best Contemporary Instrumental Album' two years ago. On Saturday he performs as trio with drummer Antonio Sanchez and singer / percussionist Pedrito Martinez. On Sunday, League will perform with the world fusion project Bokanté and special guests.

Added to the line up on Friday: WizKid, Charles Lloyd & The Marvels, Stanley Clarke Band, Kurt Elling Quintet with special guest Marquis Hill, Willie Colon, Maria Schneider & Ensemble Denada en Rohey.

On Saturday Philip Catherine, GoGo Penguin, Sons of Kemet, Fred Hersch Trio, Chico Freeman Plus+tet, The Quartet.NL (Herman / Beets / Bennink / Glerum) and Nubya Garcia have been added to the program.

New names for Sunday 15 July are: Rubén Blades, Oumou Sangaré, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Eric Vloeimans’ Levanter, Avishai Cohen ‘1970’, Mulatu Astatke, Sevdaliza and Daymé Arocena.
