North Sea Jazz 2020 in Concert: Metropole Orkest & Friends

The NTR, NN North Sea Jazz Festival and Metropole Orkest have joined forces in a special concert celebrating the richness and diversity of North Sea Jazz. Specially for this concert, the orchestra will reunite on stage in full line-up for the first time after the corona lockdown and will perform with a number of national and international guest artists who were set to perform at NN North Sea Jazz this year, including Gregory Porter, Ibrahim Maalouf, Benjamin Herman, Michelle David, Jamie Cullum, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Yola, Akwasi, and Tini Thomsen.

In 1986 Metropole Orkest performed at North Sea Jazz for the first time. Since 2002, the orchestra has been present for eighteen consecutive years. In that time, Metropole Orkest has played with many greats from jazz and related genres, resulting in numerous special musical encounters. To bring the North Sea Jazz vibe to the audience this year, NTR, NN North Sea Jazz Festival and Metropole Orkest have joined forces and put together a special program entitled 'Metropole Orkest & Friends' which will show the diversity and richness of North Sea Jazz.

Festival director Jan Willem Luyken: “Although we will all miss the festival this year, I am incredibly happy that we were able to organize this together with NTR, Metropole Orkest, and some great artists. Many thanks go out to our sponsors NN Group, Port of Rotterdam, Surmount Ventures and Fundashon Bon Intenshon, without whom this would not have been possible. The fact that we can hold this concert is a huge boost for us.”

The concert will be broadcasted on Dutch tv on Sunday, 12 July at 7.20 p.m. via NPO 2 and will simultaneously be streamed via facebook.com/northseajazz and facebook.com/nposouljazz
