Mauritshuis

What does a painting sound like? Together with Nationale-Nederlanden, we are proud to present the musical project Listen To The Mauritshuis.
This project brings the stories behind world-famous paintings to life in a new way: Dutch musicians are asked to write a special composition using a masterpiece for inspiration. These musical interpretations enable you to look at the art of the Mauritshuis in a different way – using your ears. The project was launched in 2019 with Spinvis. He wrote a beautiful song about Girl With A Pearl Earring. In his number Pearl, Spinvis plays on the riddles and fables surrounding Johannes Vermeer's iconic 1665 work. This year it is the turn of singer Joya Mooi. She was inspired by Two African Men by Rembrandt. In her song Black Horses, Mooi gives the two anonymous men in the painting their own story.
NN Group strives to make art accessible to a wide audience because art inspires and connects. NN Group, therefore, invests in museums, such as the Mauritshuis in The Hague and the Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam. In addition, NN generates art commissions and makes purchases for its own collection. The NN Art Award is also presented annually at the Art Rotterdam art fair. It is an incentive prize for artists with exceptional talent who demonstrate both authenticity and innovative craftsmanship.
