Art Bar
Art and jazz are similar in a way: both equal creativity, improvisation and a certain stratification. The Art Bar, new at the festival, is a place where visitors, jazz and art come together.
Art has always played a big role within North Sea Jazz. Jos Acket, the wife of founder Paul, once asked American artist Rafal Obinski to create a poster for the festival. Obinski’s drawing of a trumpet with sails has been the logo of North Sea Jazz ever since. Also, a competition for the annual art poster is held among students of the Willem de Kooning Academy; 2018’s selection will be exhibited at the festival.
On the second floor, next to Madeira Hall a meeting place will be created for fans of jazz and art. Visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee or a beer, listen to jazz and stroll through the exhibition of music photography, African art and abstract pieces.
