The music of drummer Guy Salamon cannot be labeled. The son of an English opera singer and a Peruvian salsa rock artist, he feels at home all over the world and with all styles. After training in New York, he eventually landed in Amsterdam, where he quickly made his name and gained fame. His music is a pleasingly confusing mix that starts somewhere with jazz and ends in an unpretentious whirlwind of polka, swing, funk and punk. Salamon has been compared to greats like Willem Breuker, Charles Mingus and Charlie Haden. He has won the Keep An Eye The Records competition, the Dutch Jazz Competition and the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours and last year released his third album, Free Hugs. He now tours the world with his Guy Salamon Group and the reactions are glowing: a musical hug from Salamon leaves no one unmoved.
