Guitarist Lee Ritenour (Los Angeles, 1952) has maintained a delicate balance between individual creative vision and group dynamics since the beginning of his career. His first spell of session work was in the late 1960s with The Mamas and the Papas, who nicknamed him 'Captain Fingers' because of his incredible agility – even while still a teenager. Since his first recordings in the 1970s, he has received a Grammy Award and 19 Grammy nominations, achieved numerous #1 positions in guitar polls, as well as a prestigious ‘Alumnus of the Year’ Award from the University of Southern California. He’s recorded over 40 albums that attained a total of 35 listings in the charts. Ritenour was also one of the founders of the legendary group Fourplay (with Bob James), which is viewed as one of the most successful outfits within contemporary jazz. In 2010, he released the important album 6 String Theory. His most recent recording was Brasil in 2024, which saw him collaborating with his friend Dave Grusin.
