There are few bassists who have left such an indelible mark on modern jazz as Marcus Miller. He’s is not only a virtuoso instrumentalist, but also an influential, Grammy-winning composer and producer who’s worked with a number of major artists, from Herbie Hancock to Luther Vandross. Miller also played a key role in Miles Davis’ 1980s material, co-writing and producing several tracks for the iconic album Tutu (1986), including the title song, as well as regularly taking to the stage with Davis. His current project We Want Miles! is a tribute to that partnership, and a celebration of what would have been Davis' 100th birthday. Together with musicians who worked with the master, namely percussionist Mino Cinelu, guitarist Mike Stern and pianist Bill Evans, Miller explores music from the various phases of Davis' career. It’s an ode to a jazz legend, paired with a bold, forward approach – completely in line with the spirit of the great man himself.
