South London singer-songwriter Joy Crookes released her first album Skin in 2021. It was a very personal record, where Joy sings about the love for her family, intergenerational traumas and break-ups. The record received rave reviews, got to number 5 in the British charts, and took her to major festivals such as Glastonbury. Crookes can sound raw like Amy Winehouse, vulnerable like Nick Drake, or jazzy and stylish like Sarah Vaughan, but both her voice and path are decidedly her own. In 2025, she released her second album Juniper, which was a collaboration with Kano and Vince Staples. This record is once again deeply personal, and arose from a mental crisis she found herself in after experiencing her first real love affair. The relationship didn’t last, but the string of beautiful songs it rendered certainly will. This summer, Joy Crookes will be making her first ever appearance at the festival.
