Flea – surely that’s the wildly energetic bassist from the Red Hot Chili Peppers? That’s right, but his musical curiosity extends far beyond funk rock. Although Flea fills stadiums worldwide with that successful band, he remains fascinated by the freedom of jazz. With the Honora project, he shows us the other side of his musical personality. For his first solo album, released this year, he returned to his childhood love: the trumpet. The young Flea had no interest in rock music; he adored Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, and Dizzy Gillespie. On his colorful solo debut, Flea explores an adventurous mix of jazz, improvisation, and alternative rock. He is joined by distinctive musicians such as drummer Deantoni Parks (The Mars Volta), bassist Anna Butterss, guitarist Jeff Parker, and saxophonist Josh Johnson. Together, they create an open, experimental sound in which groove and improvisation constantly challenge one another.
