Born in Montreal to Haitian parents, Dominique Fils-Aimé was raised with a rich cultural background and a strong sense of morality. This made her feel closely connected to the African American community and the often tough social realities that have influenced the development of blues, jazz, and soul for decades. It’s no surprise that the rich culture of her ancestors is at the heart of her work. Fils-Aimé debuted with the blues-oriented album Nameless (2018) and sold out two shows at the famous jazz festival in her hometown that same year. On her next album, Stay Tuned! (2019), she explored her jazz side, and then on Three Little Words (2021) she delved into her soulful side to complete the trilogy. Her latest album Our Roots Run Deep (2023) kicks off a new trilogy through which she aims to explore unknown territory. The first French-language single Moi Je T’Aime (2024) is a good start.
