Being a successful child star can be a curse for some, or a blessing for others, and happily the latter applies to Leon Thomas. Leon sang and acted in popular series broadcast by kids’ channel Nickelodeon at a young age and effortlessly evolved into a mature singer-songwriter, with a contemporary slant on R&B, soul and hip-hop. The New Yorker learned about every aspect of music, acting and production from his early experience in the media world; disciplines that he effortlessly meshes with one another. Last year, he won a Grammy for Best R&B Song with his contribution to SZA's hit Snooze. Thomas, who is now 31, is just as successful as a solo act, with his songs such as Breaking Point and Crash & Burn accruing over 11 million Spotify streams, while his second album MUTT was streamed more than 58 million times across all platforms. MUTT was also named the No. 1 R&B Album of 2024 by the entertainment magazine Billboard.
