For the American singer-songwriter Lady Wray, music is the instrument through which she is able to share her life story. Her career began at the age of 15, when she auditioned for Missy Elliott in her mother's living room in Virginia (she was still known by her own name of Nicole Wray at the time). Elliott was clearly impressed, and immediately handed her a contract for her label, followed quite soon after by a feature in her song Gettaway. Two years later, the California gal released her own debut album, which included the single Make It Hot that shot to the upper section of the Billboard chart. Lady Wray is now not only an established artist, with three albums to her repertoire, but has also become a mother and wife. Her music reflects that personal growth. She makes her own plan, writes for herself as well as others, and sings her material in the way she wants to: oozing soul and overflowing with compelling emotion. Raw and honest, she brings a mix of vintage R&B, soul and hip-hop, carried by a voice that can sound both immensely powerful and simultaneously fragile.
