Zoh Amba is a saxophonist, flutist, composer, very much in-demand, and still very young. From The New York Times to Iggy Pop, Zoh Amba's unpredictable style of playing has excited many people the world over. Her music flows in all directions, from folk melodies to avant-garde jazz. This versatile musician grew up in Tennessee, and sometimes traces of the deep south of the US are still audible in her music. It wasn’t long before she was storming the jazz stages of New York, and she is now one of the fastest rising stars in the free jazz scene. Amba likes to work with all manner of musicians, as they do with her. Her debut album O, Sun was produced by John Zorn, another major player in the New York scene. Her new project is called Sun Ensemble, a quartet that can just as easily switch styles from noise to devout hymns.
