With her new record Let's Walk, singer-songwriter Madeleine Peyroux has re-emerged after a six-year hiatus. As was the case for so many artists, the Covid period represented a time of focus and creativity for her, and the end result was a refreshing new album. Peyroux worked closely with Fleetwood Mac producer Elliott Scheiner and multi-instrumentalist Jon Herington, known for his work with Steely Dan. Whereas Peyroux is best known for her raw and sincere interpretations of jazz and blues songs, Let's Walk marks a shift in direction. Peyroux's highly personal lyrics on various current topics strike a harmonious balance with Herington's arrangements and melodies. There is still ample room for jazzy blues, but pop, gospel, boogie and Latin influences are also incorporated. What’s most striking though, is how Peyroux manages to draw the listener into her songs in search of a sense of connection.
