How often do you see two real mastodons of Dutch jazz together? This duo performance by drummer Han Bennink (1942) and saxophonist Hans Dulfer (1940) represents one such unique opportunity. Last year, they released the vinyl album The New, New Acoustic Swing Duo. It was a live concert from 2023 featuring a long-lost recording from 1979 on the flipside: two exciting concerts, whereby it was clear that they hadn’t lost any of their spark over the decades in between, which you can see for yourself at their festival slot. Saxophonist Hans Dulfer always had a good ear for new trends. He was also particularly successful in Japan with his hit album Big Boy, but has always remained a full-blooded jazz musician. Drummer and visual artist Han Bennink is also a truly legendary free spirit. He can swing with the best of them (such as Sonny Rollins, among others) but also became a celebrity within free jazz and instant composing. This duo delivers theatre, excitement, and humour, served with a shot of sincere jazz.
