Guitarist Jesse van Ruller (1972) hardly needs the introduction, as his reputation as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation carries all across the globe, and has led to him working together with international artists such as Roy Hargrove, Joe Lovano and Bill Stewart. Saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis (1986) is one of the representatives of a younger generation of jazz musicians. He is a member of the jazz supergroup BRUUT!, leads his own trio, and was awarded the North Sea Jazz Composition project in 2019. Hogenhuis is a much sought-after sideman in various genres. Together, the musicians released their second album, Follow The Sound, in 2024. It distinguishes itself from its predecessor (Spirits High, 2021) mainly because this time around, the duo composed almost everything collectively, resulting in eight very organic songs, in which melody and sound are central. Almost all pieces were created ‘from scratch’ during weekly sessions. Live, these compositions are awarded a new dimension due to the virtuosity and musicality that this duo are known for.
