With her deep, expressive harmonies and rhythmic layering, pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar creates a unique sound that is as recognizable as it is elusive. She was born in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, and started her bachelor's degree in classical composition at the age of 16. Gradually, Erdenebaatar discovered jazz, and her curiosity was aroused. This led to her moving to Munich at the age of twenty to study at the Hochshule für Musik. There, she obtained a double master’s degree in jazz piano and jazz composition. Erdenebaatar’s debut album Rising Waters was released in 2023, and her classical background is clearly reflected in the complex themes of the compositions, which are enveloped in technical virtuosity and refinement. Erdenebaatar also creates a lasting impression of a different kind through intense improvisations together with her three German band members. This unique pianist always manages to impact listeners through her melancholy melodies and adventurous compositional structures.
