For thirty years, Anoushka Shankar has been a leading sitar player, composer and activist. Indian classical music and the ability to improvise freely were instilled in her by her father, the world-famous sitar player Ravi Shankar. As a young woman with Indian roots, she has broken through many barriers: she has been nominated eleven times for a Grammy and is also a well-known writer, columnist and actress. Shankar now has thirteen solo albums to her name and has collaborated with other artists regardless of generation, style or national borders: from Herbie Hancock to M.I.A. and from Sting to her half-sister Norah Jones. She fuses Indian traditions with jazz, neo-classical and electronic music. Anoushka Shankar is rightfully considered musical royalty.
