Four-time Grammy winner Terri Lyne Carrington is a welcome return guest at the festival, and this will mark the eighth year that this influential drummer will perform. Carrington returns with a superb new project: We Insist. It’s an exciting reinterpretation of Max Roach's groundbreaking 1961 protest record of the same name, which served as a rallying cry during the civil rights movement. While the album's critical social message remains intact, Carrington stretches the sound palette by combining jazz with influences from gospel, neo-soul, funk, Afro-Latin and blues. Carrington has worked with major names such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Al Jarreau throughout her illustrious career. Christie Dashiell features on her latest album, displaying impressive improvisational skills and a wonderfully bright tone of voice, and will also be appearing at the festival herself this year.
