French-Moroccan trumpeter daoud is always looking for ways to annoy purists. He prefers not to take himself too seriously, but his music is a different matter. He blends together jazz, hip-hop and electronic music and fuels his compositions with absurdism. He did not have an easy childhood, was homeless for a while, and calls himself the “problem child of French jazz”. But in the meantime, he has performed at prestigious festivals and shared the stage with the likes of Ibrahim Maalouf and Erik Truffaz. daoud loves adventurous music, as long as it’s danceable and cheerful. He is a charismatic frontman and humor is an important part of his music. daoud embellishes his trumpet playing with hip-hop grooves, neo-soul and sometimes a bit of rock. His light-hearted style sometimes makes his playing seem almost careless, but his technical prowess is clear.
