Pianist, keyboardist, and sampler Bugge Wesseltoft (1964) already performed at North Sea Jazz back in 2015 with a trio that included bassist Dan Berglund (1963). At that time, they wanted to embark on a so-called “Trialogue”, named after the album of the same name that had just been released. After that, Wesseltoft did all kinds of different things, as befits a true jazz pioneer. But you can’t fight your nature: Wesseltoft felt like working with a real trio again. As a result, he came to the festival in 2019 with the group RYMDEN. Drummer Magnus Öström (1965) seemed like the obvious choice to complete the trio; like Berglund, he was part of the renowned Esbjörn Svensson Trio. Through their involvement in the groups New Conception Of Jazz and e.s.t., these three musicians have been writing their own chapter in European jazz history since the mid-1990s. RYMDEN brings a new, fresh sound with plenty of room for experimentation and radical forward thinking. A source of inspiration for future generations.
