Among the new generation of Dutch jazz musicians, guitarist Reiner Baas and saxophonist Ben van Gelder are two of the most talented artists of the past decade. This Is Water is the duo’s third collaborative album, brimming with diverse colors and atmospheres. Adventurous, challenging, unpredictable – rich in melody and arrangements, and played with great passion. The synergy between these two exceptional musicians creates a unique sound that is rooted in American tradition but with an unmistakable European flair. From quiet meditations to virtuoso crescendos, each composition tells a new story. For their concert, Jeff Ballard, known for his work with Brad Mehldau, takes a seat behind the drum kit. Baas won this year’s Boy Edgar Prize for his innovative guitar playing, and Van Gelder, who also enjoys great success abroad, is composer in residence for this anniversary edition of the festival.
