By the time she was seventeen, Hiromi was already performing on stage with Chick Corea, and she has since become a jazz phenomenon in her own right. For twenty years, the Japanese pianist and composer has been throwing herself into one unique project after another. This culminated in Sonicwonderland in 2023, her most expressive work at the time. Now, on Out There, she picks up where she left off. On the album, Hiromi’s Sonicwonder brings to life a flower garden bursting with jazz-rock, funk, and virtuosity. The album features lightning-fast piano pieces, as well as 1970s fusion grooves and forays into avant-garde. But there are also hints of disco and ska, and even Black Sabbath-esque guitar work. Backed by her band of world-class jazz musicians, Hiromi always goes full steam ahead, driven by the joy of music.
