The expressive, emerging Brussels-based singer-songwriter and theatre creator Adja was captivated from an early age by the deeper layers within herself and others. While studying jazz at the Leuven conservatory, she explored her love of storytelling and her fascination with ceremonies and rituals. She did this with her voice and through her stories. Combined with a passion for R&B, soul and gospel, with influences from Erykah Badu and Lianne La Havas, Adja captures everyday stories in a unique way. This led to her debut album, Golden Retrieve Her, in 2025. On this album, Adja describes the impact of our capitalist society on our most intimate moments: from gritty lyrics about Deliveroo delivery drivers being stalked by telemarketers to reinterpretations of jazz standards and classic songs about conditional friendships, based on time and money.
