Following the internationally acclaimed albums Hubert and You Know, the jazz quartet NABOU, centered around Antwerp trombonist, composer, and bandleader Nabou Claerhout, returns with their third record, Indigo. Jazz magazine DownBeat called their sound “very contemporary, quite inventive”. This is evident once again on Indigo. With a renewed lineup, the band sounds more powerful and layered than before. The album explores themes such as change, renewal, and human connections. Claerhout draws on her personal experiences as a source of inspiration for the new compositions. The songs translate into music that sounds simultaneously raw and refined, intimate and powerful. The sound moves between dreamy atmospheres and melancholic resonance; from lyrical, contemplative moments to playful, groove-driven energy. Claerhout’s trombone remains the leading voice of the quartet, supported by subtle effects and short, almost haunting solo moments that bring together vulnerability and strength.
