Selah Sue has returned to North Sea Jazz many times since her stunning debut here in 2009. Each time, she’s been just as surprising and intense. This time, the Belgian singer-songwriter is performing with the father-son duo The Gallands. Father Stéphane already has an impressive career as a drummer; he worked with Oumou Sangaré, Toots Thielemans, Mark Turner, and Joe Lovano, among others, and is a co-founder of the influential jazz band Aka Moon. Son Elvin is a keyboardist and producer. He studied classical piano and jazz at the royal conservatory in Brussels and later delved into electronic music. Stéphane’s virtuosity, Elvin’s innovative influence, and Selah Sue’s unmistakable voice and stage presence create a spectacular chemistry. In Rotterdam, the trio will be joined by bassist Louise van den Heuvel and backing vocalists Stephanie Rugurika and Judith Okon.
