The Spanish singer Estrella Morente was immersed in the rich artistic world of flamenco from an early age. She’s the daughter of legendary Andalusian singer and flamenco guitarist Enrique Morente, with whom she sang on several albums. None other than Peter Gabriel went completely overboard for Morente's expressive and dramatic singing style. Gabriel selected one of her songs for his compilation album Voices Of The World, which helped open the doors to an international audience. On the album Autorretrato, Morente collaborated with the greats Pat Metheny and Paco de Lucía. In 2006, she lent her voice to Penélope Cruz in Pedro Almodóvar's award-winning film Volver. Éstrella a Estrellas represents a new chapter in Morente’s career, combining a contemporary jazz sound with the roots of flamenco, and honoring such formidable divas as Nina Simone, Edith Piaf and Chavela Vargas.
