Pat Metheny’s debut album Bright Size Life (1976) and North Sea Jazz: two icons in the jazz world, both marking their 50th anniversary. That calls for a unique celebration. Metheny has invited Tyn Wybenga’s Brainteaser Orchestra for this special occasion. As an admirer of Wybenga’s approach, the legendary guitarist gave the orchestra leader carte blanche to completely reimagine his debut album (hence the title: Bright Size Life Reimagined). His only instruction: “Go crazy!” And that’s exactly what the Dutch trailblazer – who used to play Metheny’s music himself – did. He sought out the most spontaneous moments on Bright Size Life and used them as the basis for new music. Metheny’s groundbreaking album remains recognizable to his fans, yet sounds surprisingly fresh at the same time. The two jazz pioneers will bring these reimagined versions to the festival stage together.
