When versatile guitarist Bill Frisell signed to the Blue Note label in 2019, he had already carved out a unique career for himself. Frisell (1951) is known as an eclectic guitarist who incorporates a wide variety of styles into his playing. In addition to his work with saxophonist John Zorn and drummer Paul Motian, he also gained recognition as a bandleader, which earned him a Grammy and six nominations. Frisell turned 75 this year, and he is celebrating that milestone with a series of special projects and concerts, which will feature his loyal Bill Frisell Trio collaborators Thomas Morgan (bass, born in 1981) and Rudy Royston (drums, born in 1970). Saxophonist Greg Tardy (1966) adds a rich dimension to this musical dialogue. Together, they explore a wide range of Frisell compositions, timeless standards, and folk classics. Lyrical sensitivity and adventurous interplay are the main characteristics, complemented by unpredictability and a maverick slant.
