For decades, North Sea Jazz and KC Jazz Big Band, of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, have shared a deep connection. From the late 1980s onward, the band became a regular fixture at the event, gracing its stages until 2006, when the festival found its new home in Rotterdam. Throughout those years, the big band collaborated with some of the brightest voices in contemporary jazz, such as Jim McNeely, Kenny Wheeler, and Maria Schneider, amongst many others. Now, two decades later, the KC Jazz Big Band returns to North Sea Jazz with The New Los Angeles Sound, a program capturing the vibrant, fresh energy of today’s L.A. jazz scene. Spearheaded by special guests, alto saxophonist Nicole McCabe and trombonist Jon Hatamiya, the band dives into new repertoire that reflects this new adventurous L.A. generation. They will perform original works of Jacob Mann, McCabe and Hatamiya, showing rich rhythmical textures and beautiful sonic palettes.
