Suzan Veneman is considered one of the most promising and expressive trumpet players within the Dutch jazz scene. With her soulful sound, cinematic compositions, and surefire instinct for adventure, she creates a musical world that is both lyrical and powerful. Raised in a musical brass-playing family, she started off with the flugelhorn at a young age, and later went on to find her true instrument in the trumpet. She studied at the Prince Claus Conservatory and at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where the likes of Joe Magnarelli guided her throughout her artistic development. Veneman has been leading her own Suzan Veneman Sextet since 2019, and has performed at North Sea Jazz with this formation before. In addition to her work as a bandleader, she is active as a composer and arranger for leading ensembles, including the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. Her latest album The Art Of Letting Go portrays a moving and courageous search for freedom, growth and authenticity, and features music that is as personal as it is compelling.
