Saxophonist Otis Sandsjö is the driving force behind the experimental jazz project Y-Otis. When he exchanged his native Sweden for Berlin, he brought with him a sound that is continually evolving. His self-titled debut album from 2018 captured a new musical language, which was genre-transcending, fluid and not confined to any descriptions. On its successor Y-Otis 2 in 2020, he continued to break new ground through hypnotic waves of fragments, loops and sax riffs that are always flowing forward. The 2024 release Y-Otis Tre is a continuation of his unpredictable path. Sandsjö's vision of liquid jazz is something of an ‘audio mosaic’, whereby saxophone riffs and melody lines undulate like waves, driven by funky percussion and languid hip-hop beats, laced with electronica effects. He often performs his music with a band of skilled musicians, including bassist Petter Eldh, keyboard player Dan Nicholls, and drummer Jamie Peet, who promise to make this an unmissable live experience.
