Coming in with their latest album Sol, the Paris-based collective Raúl Monsalve y Los Forajidos are set to deliver a musical solar flare of Afrobeat, raw funk and Latin jazz. The Venezuelan bassist, percussionist and composer Monsalve calls it 'Afro-Venezuelan electro-jazz'. Rousing rhythms and traditions flow seamlessly into each other with bursts of spiritual and futuristic jazz, psychedelic funk, electro and Afrobeat percussion. The result is an exciting and musical adventure without limits, where the influence of Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen clearly shines through at times. Monsalve has dedicated much of his life to studying and propagating traditional Afro-Venezuelan music, studying with some of the best percussionists in his home country. He also maintains a huge interest in fusion and and African music. A live concert by Raúl Monsalve y Los Forajidos is a fiery ode to Afro-Venezuelan rhythms, cosmic grooves, post-rock and avant-jazz funk.
